Carved into the patagonian andes, the cuevas de mármol are positioned on a peninsula of solid marble bordering lake popular carrera, a far flung glacial lake that spans the chile-argentina border.
Formed via 6,000-plus years of waves washing up against calcium carbonate, the clean, swirling blues of the cavern walls are a mirrored image of the lake’s azure waters, which exchange in depth and hue, relying on water tiers and time of year.
Positioned far from any road, the caves are on hand simplest by boat. Thirty minute tours are operated through a local employer, climate and water conditions allowing.
